Aspiring La Pine High Broadcasters Call Football Games
by La Pine Weekly News Sources

Thanks to a new radio-broadcasting program at La Pine High School (LPHS), and a very ambitious student, Hawk football has a new voice.

Freshman Jacob Gilmer is joining off-season coaches Kent Wieber and Greg Stackhouse on the microphone at all home and away La Pine High Hawks football games for “Voice of the Hawks in Action.”

“The Communications Technologies program at LPHS features radio broadcasting as one of several Career and Technical Education courses,” said radio broadcasting instructor Daren vom Steeg. “This radio project is intended to provide students with an opportunity to gain “real life” simulated work experience that can be used in future endeavors of the students’ choosing,” he adds.

vom Steeg says that the experience can also be used by the students to apply to the newly enhanced graduation requirements similar to those required for the Certificate of Advance Mastery.

About the Live Game Coverage
Games are broadcast on KITC-LP, 106.5 FM. Games kickoff each Friday at 7 pm with the exception of a Thursday night contest on Oct. 12.

The “Voice of the Hawks in Action” broadcasts have been made partially possible through a grant from the Bend Education Foundation and with cooperation from KITC-LP, a Gilchrist/Crescent low power community supported non-commercial/educational radio station.
